The skulls were turned into works of art as jewelry and carvings were added before utilizing the skull as a bowl to hold wine and cakes — the skull would act as a symbolic offering for their higher powers.

These skulls are called kapala in Tibetan Buddhism.

On September 1, 2019, I started hiking 2000 kilometers from Ya'an, Sichuan, China to Lhasa, Tibet, which lasted 70 days. On the way, I was attracted by Tibetan Buddhist culture. The beauty that exists between life and death deeply shocked my heart. Have you found your colored skull?

The colored skulls are inspired by Tibetan skull artifacts. The colored skull is composed of 9 hand-painted layers, and all the skulls are randomly colored by the program.
